Farmer Day Service

A DAy service that transforms lives

Southampton City Farm offers a programme of activities for people with mild to moderate Learning Disabilities, Different Abilities, and Neurodiversities. We have a supportive environment where people can enhance life skills, build employability skills, and participate in real work opportunities. A large focus of the sessions is to promote wellbeing through animals and nature.

Our site is made up of 5 acres of grounds including a small farm, pond, grassland habitats, gardens, and a fully equipped building suitable for a range of indoor activities. Southampton City Farm is set within a safe and beautiful green space in the middle of Millbrook. The farm is easily accessible by bus, train, car, or walking.

A programme of hands-on nature-based activities is delivered by expert staff and our team of volunteers, and we aim to create a sense of achievement, personal responsibility, and self-confidence. Our activities take place within a social setting alongside other adults and children, which promotes a feeling of inclusion and belonging
The Farm is a friendly and calm environment where people can learn new skills, make new friends, grow in confidence and independence, and above all have fun.

Our Activities
Our programme at Southampton City Farm offers adults with mild or moderate Learning Differences a variety of activities which will encourage them to participate in meaningful work and to interact with the natural environment within a safe and secure setting. We offer:
  • Animal care – involves caring for, and looking after, all of the large and small animals we have on the farm.
  • Horticulture – working in the allotment garden, helping to grow fruit and vegetables that the farm then sells to the local community or uses for animal feed.
  • Arts and crafts - offers a range of activities that are conducted both in the indoor accommodation and in the grounds.
  • Cooking - cooking and baking some amazing recipes using ingredients from our gardens
  • Woodwork- Examples include bird houses and farm grounds maintenance
  • Woodland Activities- We have a shared woodland site and use these for fires, bug hunts and wildlife lessons.

Our programme is currently available Mondays and Thursdays throughout the year.
Participants can attend for either a morning or afternoon session or if they bring their own lunch they can join us for the whole day.
